Board of Visitors

The Board of Visitors (BOV) is a volunteer group of community members who share a common belief in the value and critical importance of the humanities, and who provide a vital link between the UO and the public. The goal of the BOV is to advance the humanities and support the center’s growth through fundraising and friend-raising.

BOV members:

  • Serve as OHC advocates by being ambassadors for the OHC in the community.
  • Attend two meetings during the academic year, consulting with the director and associate director regarding OHC programs and goals.
  • Participate in the intellectual life of the OHC; this includes attending OHC events and programs as frequently as possible, and encouraging friends and family to attend.
  • Help expand the OHC’s base of support through the nomination of new members, the cultivation of new donors, and the identification of fundraising opportunities.
  • Contribute a $2,500 annual membership fee.

Join the Oregon Humanities Center (OHC) Board of Visitors (BOV) to advance the humanities and support the Center’s growth. The BOV is group of community members who share a common belief in the value and critical importance of the humanities. Since 1983, the Oregon Humanities Center at the University of Oregon has been fostering the work of scholars who delve into crucial questions about what it means to be human and live together in society—offering context on the past, reflections on the present, and solutions for the future.

You can help us do this work. Join the OHC’s Board of Visitors to serve as an advisor (2–3 meetings/year), a friend-raiser, and fundraiser. Your input and professional experience will help the humanities thrive at the University of Oregon. No previous board experience required. Membership dues are $2,500 per year.

Don’t have time, but want to help? Consider sponsoring a UO graduate student to be a BOV member with a $2,500 gift. The student will gain vital experience and carry out a project for the OHC.
