New initiative supports graduate student success

The Oregon Humanities Center, in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), has created a new initiative to pay tuition and travel expenses for two UO humanities PhD students to attend the National Humanities Center’s (NHC) Graduate Student Summer Residency in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

This in-person NHC residency (July 15–19, 2024) offers graduate students an opportunity to learn about and experience best practices in teaching and learning. Students working in teams create materials ready for the job market, learn grant-writing skills, engage with public scholarship, and discuss humanities-focused careers inside and outside the academy.

The design of the residency requires direct work among students from different universities and disciplines, creating opportunities to engage with a broad network of humanities professionals.

This year’s participants will be selected from a pool of applicants nominated by directors of graduate studies in CAS humanities-related departments that offer PhDs.
