Mobile performance/exhibition space coming to campus
The School of Music and Dance and the School of Art + Design has been awarded an IDEAL Campus Climate Matching Grant from UO’s Division of Equity and Inclusion. The grant, with additional support from the OHC’s Endowment for Public Outreach in the Arts, Sciences, and Humanities, will allow for the creation of a project called Art-Music-Performance (AMP)-—a mobile performance/exhibition space. The space will be designed and built by Tru Form Tiny, outfitted by the Harmonic Laboratory art collective, and managed by the School of Music and Dance and the School of Art + Design. AMP will be a 16’ x 8.5’ “custom exhibition tiny home” on a trailer that opens on the side to reveal a small performance/exhibition area. The space will be transported around campus to be accessible to faculty, staff, and graduate students who are engaged in the arts in some way. AMP will feature performances and exhibitions that are accessible to the campus community.
The Division of Equity and Inclusion aims to put equity and inclusion into practice so that the UO community can benefit from the excellence of diversity. By partnering with faculty, students, staff, alumni, and community members, the division works collaboratively to strengthen individual capacity and community bonds to advance the academic mission of the university. These efforts are facilitated through the IDEAL framework, which is comprised of these five pillars: Inclusion, Diversity, Evaluation, Achievement, and Leadership.
One of the inclusion strategies and initiatives described in the IDEAL framework is to “create new physical spaces for cultural and educational activities that promote inclusion.” This project creates just such a space—a fully operational and easily transportable venue that brings together the campus community around the creation and experience of art.
Other units supporting this project include the Department of Theatre Arts, the Center for the Study of Women in Society, the Humanities Division of the College of Arts and Sciences, and faculty from the Department of Architecture.
