17th annual Rennard Strickland Lecture

The UO Environmental and Natural Resources Law Center’s Native Environmental Sovereignty Project presents the 17th annual Rennard Strickland Lecture with Elizabeth Kronk Warner on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023, at 6 p.m. in 175 Knight Law Center. Elizabeth Kronk Warner is a citizen of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. In addition to serving as Jefferson B. & Rita Fordham Presidential Dean of the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, Kronk Warner is an appellate judge for her Nation and a district judge for the Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribe. She is also a prolific Indian law scholar focused on environmental issues impacting tribes and other Indigenous communities across the country. 

The Native Environmental Sovereignty Project—an interdisciplinary team of faculty and student research fellows at the UO School of Law—established the Rennard Strickland Lecture in 2006. The lectureship honors the legacy of former UO Law professor and dean Rennard Strickland (1940–2021). Strickland was Osage, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, and a leading scholar in federal Indian law and policy. As a faculty member with Oregon Law, Strickland advanced both the Environmental and Natural Resources and Indian Law programs.
