Vocalist in residence at School of Music and Dance
Patricia Caicedo is a soprano, musicologist, and physician whose research, framed through decolonial thought, redefines the canon of classical vocal music by centering Latin American and Iberian art song. She has released eleven albums, published numerous academic articles, and authored sixteen books, including the landmark The Latin American Art Song: Sounds of the Imagined Nations and We Are What We Listen To: The Impact of Music on Individual and Social Health. As editor of the Latin American and Spanish Vocal Music Collection, she has created diction guides for Spanish and Catalan and produced critical editions, collections, and anthologies—many highlighting women composers—that have become essential resources for singers and teachers worldwide. She holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a Medical Doctor degree from the Escuela Colombiana de Medicina.
As a performer, Caicedo has appeared in more than a hundred concerts and recitals across Europe, the United States, and Latin America, establishing herself as one of the leading interpreters of Iberian and Latin American art song.
Patricia Caicedo will be in residence at the School of Music and Dance from January 20 to 22, 2026. During her residency, she will share her expertise in Latin American and Iberian vocal music. She will coach students in preparation for a student concert, present three lectures, and give a masterclass. See the calendar for event details.
Caicedo’s UO residency is cosponsored by the OHC’s Endowment for Public Outreach in the Arts, Sciences, and Humanities. For more information contact Camille Ortiz, Assistant Professor of Voice at the School of Music and Dance, at ortizc@uoregon.edu
