May 14 Linda Chapman, director, Art Therapy Institute of the Redwoods, discusses how creative expression in a therapeutic setting can help victims of violence and trauma. Chapman gave a talk titled "The Neurobiology of Violence and Healing with Art Therapy" on April 12, 2012 as the 2011-12 O'Fallon Lecturer. Watch it online.
May 21 Russel Wong, photographer, discusses how he got his start snapping photos of track stars at Hayward Field in the early 80s. He is now an internationally acclaimed photographer of celebrities and landscapes. "Russel Wong: The Big Picture" is on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art until August 19th.
May 28 Bill Ayers, education theorist and activist, discusses his anti-war activities during the 1960s and 70s. He also talks about the state of public education in the U.S. He gave a lecture, “Teaching and Organizing for Social Justice,” on 4/26/12.
June 4 Margaret Randall, feminist poet, writer, photographer, and social acitivist, discusses living and working in Cuba in the 1970s and Nicaragua in the 80s. She also talks about Ben Linder and his work in Nicaragua. He was murdered by the U.S.-backed Contras in 1987.
June 11 David Cortright, director of policy studies, Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, Notre Dame, discusses his life-long advocacy for peace. He also talks about Iran and Afghanistan. He gave a lecture, "Afghan Women Speak: Enhancing Security and Human Rights in Afghanistan," on 5/4/12.
June 18 Belva Davis, journalist, discusses her life and groundbreaking career as a black woman. She broke into broadcasting in 1966 amid social and political turmoil. She gave a lecture, "Never in My Wildest Dreams: A Black Woman's Life in Journalism," on 5/9/12.
